Berberine TPGS is a well-researched orthomolecular combination of ingredients that provides a significantly higher Berberine coefficient of absorption and utilization.

Berberine is an alkaloid present in several plants such as Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), Oregon grape (Berberis aquifolium), Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) and Chinese Goldthread (Coptis chinensis). Recent and more thorough studies of Berberine were carried out establishing clearly that Berberine has a therapeutic use in metabolic syndrome (MSyn) characterized by high blood sugar and A1c levels.

Berberine is poorly absorbed across the gut wall and therefore high doses must be taken to achieve therapeutic results. In addition, Berberine is degraded by stomach acids. Berberine TPGS is encapsulated in delay release (DR) capsules to minimize the impact of stomach acids. It also contains a support blend that significantly improves absorption, bio-availability and utilization. Therefore, lower dosages of Berberine are needed but with increased efficacy. This also means less probability for gastrointestinal discomfort.

Berberine TPGS targets to control glucose metabolism in part by activating adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase or AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and by increasing expression of insulin receptors and therefore reducing insulin resistance. The activation of AMPK tells the body to burn fats for energy which, by doing so, can also lead to weight loss.
